Don't adjust your televisions: Veteran sports reporter Bob Costas' eyes are actually that red right now.
After several days of covering the Olympics, an eye infection has gotten the best of Costas, who has been pulled from primetime reports about the Sochi Winter Olympics. It started in his left eye, and spread to his right, and in that short period of time, Twitter and Facebook have had a field day with his unfortunate case of conjunctivitis, aka pinkeye.
Let's review quickly: According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, conjunctivitis is the extremely contagious "inflammation of the thin, clear membrane (conjunctiva) that covers the white of the eye and the inside surface of the eyelids." An no, unlike what 2007's "Knocked Up" told you, he probably did not get it from someone farting on his pillow.
However he contracted the old pinkeye, he was at least a good sport about it on night one of the Olympics. From a Tribune wire story:
"Bear with me for a moment as I spare my friends in the press office countless inquiries. ... I woke up this morning with my left eye swollen shut and just about as red as the old Soviet flag. According to the NBC doctors here, it's some kind of minor infection, which should resolve itself by the weekend. If only all my issues would resolve themselves that quickly. But that's another story."
Naturally, it didn't take long for parody accounts on Twitter to be born:

Last night, he even did a shot of vodka on air, noting that his "eyes couldn't get any redder."
And, naturally, as the paper of record for discolored eyes, RedEye reached out to Costas' people to see if he'd Skype with us. We were told he was resting.
Get well, Bob, and don't shake anyone's hand.
