Biography

Jon Lender is a reporter on the politics and government beat. He writes The Courant’s Sunday investigative column, Government Watch. A reporter and editor for 40 years, he has received numerous regional and national journalism awards, including the 2004 George Polk Award for investigative stories by him and two other reporters about corruption involving Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland, who later served 10 months in federal prison. He began as a town reporter in Willimantic, Bristol, Southington and Middletown before switching to investigative reporting and government/politics coverage.

Taxpayers have been charged thousands of dollars per patient for a 30-day supply of medicine such as a cream to treat joint pain or reduce scarring, under prescriptions filled for state employees or retirees. Co-payments were generally $20 or lower.
