LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The Alger County Sheriff's Department says an Illinois man apparently drowned while fishing in the Upper Peninsula's Whitefish River.
WLUC-TV says deputies got a call about 4 p.m. Sunday saying a 25-year-old man from Westmont, Ill., was overdue at his destination.
A four-hour search by the department, state police and the Eastern U.P. Search and Rescue led to the discovery of the man's body floating face down.
The site is in the West Branch of the Whitefish River in Limestone Township, about 20 miles east of Marquette.
Authorities didn't immediately release the man's name and say an autopsy should pinpoint the cause of death.
