BOHEMIA, NY (WPIX)—Two people suffered severe burns Saturday after the small plane they were traveling in crashed into a building near MacArthur Airport in Bohemia.
A student pilot and a flight instructor were practicing landing at the airport when the plane went down shortly after 3 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It slammed into an unoccupied building on Ocean Avenue in Bohemia.
The single-engine Beechcraft B19 crashed into Varsity Plumbing Supplies, located just a half mile from the runway at Long Island's Macarthur Airport. According to firefighters, the plane burst into flames leaving the wreckage scattered around the parking lot.
The victims were rushed to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Officials say their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
