New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie comes to Chicago this afternoon for a series of fundraisers in his role as chairman of the Republican Governors Association — including one for Illinois GOP governor candidate Bruce Rauner.

Christie, a potential 2016 presidential contender, starts with a 3 p.m. RGA finance event, followed by a session with reporters before he attends a closed-door fundraiser for Rauner at the Hilton Chicago.

Ticket prices for the Rauner fundraiser range from $500 per person for the general reception to $2,500 per couple for a VIP reception and photo.

The RGA is being counted upon by Rauner to supply cash in his campaign against Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. The group already has given $1.5 million to the Republican governor nominee.

After the Rauner event, Christie will attend a closed-door Chicago fundraiser for Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

Meanwhile, Christie’s description of New York Republican governor candidate Rob Astorino’s campaign as a “lost cause” against Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo is getting some reaction from other potential Republican presidential candidates.

CNN reported that Astorino was disinvited from an RGA summit in Aspen, Colo., but still attended the event earlier this week. Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal urged Astorino to attend, CNN said.
