Emmy award winning television personality Cathy Hobbs (ASID) is the founder of the interior design firm aphereä based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the Co-Host and Executive Producer of Metro Residential, a weekly television real estate and design series airing on WPIX-TV in New York City. Founded in 2003, aphereä is a boutique style full-service design firm that in addition to executing high-end residential and commercial interiors, offers unparalleled design services to DIY design enthusiasts. Cathy is also a LEED AP, recognized and credentialed by The U.S. Green Building Council for her exceptional expertise and knowledge of Green and Sustainable design. Cathy is also an NCIDQ certificate holder. A graduate of one of the top interior design programs in the country, The Fashion Institute of Technology, Cathy's commitment and vision is to make interior design approachable and affordable to all those who seek the services of a professional designer.
Cathy's passion for interior design began at an early age while growing up in Columbia, Maryland and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Cathy would ride her bike through her suburban neighborhood, venturing into houses under construction, envisioning how they would look once complete. Her childhood passion would follow her into adulthood especially as she entered the competitive field of broadcast journalism. Cathy has been an on-air television newscaster since her senior year of college at The University of Southern California. Frustrated by her own design challenges and limited budget, Cathy spent her weekends in thrift stores, shopping for bargain fabrics and trimming remnants and because she didn't know how to sew, she would glue and stitch pillows and shower curtains by hand. The look was custom, affordable and the foundation for what would later become a growing business!
aphereä's mantra is "the art of creating atmosphere," and the company's design philosophy is to embrace each project individually, providing fresh and innovative design solutions and creative concepts for all project types, regardless of the project size or budget. Cathy's view of design is based on a lifestyle approach - how her clients wish to feel and live within their home, office or environment. In the company's first year, its work was printed in three national magazines and the business has been growing ever since.
While most of her company's clients include new home buyers, working parents, busy professionals and small business owners seeking full-service interior design services, Cathy's Design On Delivery "www.designondelivery.com service is one of the most popular. An affordable option for those who can't afford traditional designer fees, Design On Delivery clients enjoy a one hour on-site consultation and detailed design solution for a flat fee. Design solutions are delivered to clients by email or mail within 3-5 days. Design On Delivery clients do not even need to live in the New York City area as Design On Delivery can be experienced entirely by mail or email (clients can upload pictures and floor plans, no home visit required). Design On Delivery is also available for events such as open houses, new development openings, retail store openings and product launches, in which designers can be on hand to offer one-on-one consultations.
Cathy's newest project, Design Recipes, are interior design resource guides providing step-by-step instructions on how a room was created and executed as well as the much sought after resource information so that design enthusiasts and do-it-yourselfers can create their own spaces. More than one-hundred individual Design Recipes are available online at www.design-recipes.com where customers can purchase and download a pdf file that features expert design and resource information, high quality photographs, and specific instructions in order to turn an empty space into a home at their own pace and budget.
Beyond the recipes themselves, Design Recipes offers customers a custom online search engine in which users can search and shop for "recipe ingredients" such as furniture and accessories in addition to ordering Custom Design Recipes which allow customers to upload photographs of their own room in order to receive a custom recipe they can use to redesign their space.
