As manager of SoMo Agri-Supply, Mike Frieze says he's just trying to run a business.
"You are in business to serve the public and then hopefully make a profit for your owners," Frieze said. "You focus on those types of things, don’t think about having to spend that much time or effort to protect those assets that are already yours."
Frieze found out the great lengths that crooks will go to these days. Late last week, a group of men broke into SoMo.
"They took some cash and some documents that made it really difficult to do business that next day," Frieze said.
It was how the crooks accessed the place that may make this case so unusual.
Police say burglars will usually break into homes and businesses using doors and windows. This time, the guys made their very own entry way into SoMo, which is housed in a metal structure.
"They took a screw gun and actually took the screws out of the side of the building." said Frieze.
The culprits then peeled back the metal siding and went on in.
Police say in recent days, the group of guys may have also targeted other businesses housed in metal buildings. They include Big Lots on N. Kansas Expwy., and Dollar General stores on W. Kearney and W. Chestnut. The Dollar General store on Kearney was targeted two times.
Mike Frieze says SoMo also had surveillance cameras. However, they’re now beefing up their security measures.
"We want to make sure this gets stopped, and it has made us all a lot wiser on how we are going to do business going forward."
Springfield Police and Crime Stoppers are asking you to call 911 if you see suspicious activity taking place at a business, or if you have details about the recent string of burglaries.
