KY3 Archives: Black History Month-George Washington Carver

DIAMOND, Mo. -- Southwest Missouri is home to a giant of American history, George Washington Carver.  February's designation as "Black History Month" provides an ideal time to recognize the profound and permanent mark made by Carver on American life.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Missouri.  It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 pm.  The website, which includes directions, can be found HERE.

10 years ago, Ellen Cox of the National Park Service, helped KY3 news share aspects of the historic site and the remarkable life of George Washington Carver.  His example of selfless service, scientific achievement, and interracial cooperation is unequaled in the history of America.
