Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer was released from the hospital Friday afternoon. He was admitted Tuesday after experiencing chest pains.
“I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and well-wishes,” Brewer said. “I feel fine and I am eager to return to the work of serving the residents of Wichita.”
In a release from the city, it stated 54-year-old Brewer underwent a routine medical evaluation. He was treated for acid reflux, a gastric disorder which causes stomach acids to back up into the esophagus and leads to heartburn.
Earlier this week, council woman Janet Miller said she hoped it was something as simple as indigestion. She said she's proud of him for taking his health seriously. Miller is acting as mayor until Brewer gets back to work Monday. His doctor has requested he take the weekend to rest.
Vice Mayor Lavonta Williams is out of town, which is leave Miller next in charge of city council business.
