I’m standing in line with my so at the concession stand at Busch Stadium last Sunday night, fully festooned in Red Sox gear, when we’re stopped by a Cardinals fan.  The guy gives us a look and asks me if that’s my son I’m with.  “Yes, it is” I reply, wondering where this is going.  “In St. Louis”, he says, “we consider that (his outfit) to be child abuse”.

    The plight of a fan: You know you’re too locked into a team when winning is more of a relief than it is a joy. Such was the case for me last weekend when the Red Sox beat the Tigers in game six of the ALCS to get to the World Series. I had more fear of them blowing a three games to two lead than I did the expectation of reaching a third World Series in ten years. What’s wrong with me?
