The city of North Pole has halted the sale of fireworks because of the increased fire risk from prolonged hot, dry weather.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the North Pole Fire Department ordered that sales be stopped on Friday.
Fire Chief Buddy Lane says he had concerns about the extreme temperatures and lack of moisture.
North Pole is the only city in the Fairbanks North Star Borough that allows the sale of fireworks.
Fireworks can only be sold during the two weeks before the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve
