The Juneau Assembly is moving forward with a 1,000-foot extension of the downtown sea walk.
KTOO reports the planned extension could be built as early as this winter. The sea walk runs along the waterfront where the cruise ships dock.
The director of engineering for the city and borough, Rorie Watt, said the project widen the staging area for the Princess Dock and allow the separation of passengers getting on and off buses and pedestrians walking through the area.
Watt says an agreement has been reached to secure an easement to build the extension and permitting, engineering and design work is complete. Watt says the extension will cost $4 million, which would come from the $15 million the city has secured for sea walk projects.
