Ken Kreitzer, of Juneau, replaces Parnell's earlier pick for the seven-member board, Don Haase (hays). Haase withdrew from consideration after concerns were raised about statements he'd made under questioning by lawmakers, about criminalizing adultery and possibly premarital sex.
Parnell's office says Kreitzer retired with over 25 years of public safety experience, including work as a police and corrections officer. He is a former legislative liaison for the Department of Corrections and married to a former director of the state Department of Administration.
The council screens applicants for judicial vacancies, evaluates the performance of judges and researches ways to improve the judicial system.
Kreitzer will have to be confirmed by the Legislature.
