Assistant Police Chief Peter Reichard said state police found the body at around 5 p.m. Le's family has been contacted, he said.
The body has not been positively identified, but investigators are assuming for now that it is Le's body, Reichard said.
New Haven police are now the lead investigators in the case, which is now considered a homicide investigation, police said.
Le, 24, had been missing since Tuesday. She was to be married today in New York. She was last scene entering the laboratory building, and there was no evidence that she left the building, police said.
Investigators were also searching a Hartford trash facility, and Reichard said that search was a routine part of the investigation. He did not say whether anything linked to Le's disappearance had been found there.
