Coronado murder victim memorialized at UCSD

SAN DIEGO - Several hundred people gathered Thursday evening in Rimack Arena at the University of Califonria, San Diego, to remember a recent graduate who was murdered in a Coronado condominium on News Year's Day.

Those that knew Karen Reis, who graduated from UCSD in 2010 and had played volleyball for the Tritons, said she was goofy, passionate, fun, and thoughtful.

"She was a person of integrity," said Reis' former roommate, Lauren Bradley. "She just loved people."

"She was one of the hardest workers we knew," said Janessa Werhane.

Reis' parents, sister, and brother attended Thursday's ceremony at the Rimack Arena and accepted her volleyball jersey which was a gift from her alma mater.

Reis, her brother David, and Matt Saturley of Chula Vista were murdered in Coronado just hours into the new year by suspected gunman, Bob Reeves.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department continues to be tight lipped about the investigation and releasing few details, including the possible motive.

A private memorial service for her brother, David, will be held at MCAS Miramar on Friday.

Reis and her brother were buried side by side in their hometown of Bakersfield.
