Gunmen get away after wounding 2

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Chula Vista police Thursday investigated a shooting in which two people were wounded -- one seriously -- by a pair of gunmen who got away.

The shooting in the area of Roosevelt Street and Smith Avenue was reported about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Chula Vista police.

Paramedics took one of the victims to UCSD Medical Center to be treated for a gunshot wound to the back, while the other victim was treated at the scene for a minor gunshot wound to a hand, police said.

The gunmen were described as Hispanic, mid-20s, around 5 feet 9 and 160 pounds. One was armed with a shotgun and wore a white shirt, dark jeans and dark beanie, police said. The other had a handgun and wore dark clothing.

The pair was last seen running northbound on Smith Avenue.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the CVPD's Crime of Violence Unit at 619-691-5151. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
