How You Can Help: Info on donating to Salvation Army and Victory Mission back-to-school programs
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Although summer has just begun, The Salvation Army is already gearing up for its 2013 Back-to-School Assistance Program.
Each year, The Salvation Army helps hundreds of local children by providing them with basic school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothing from its thrift stores. Last year, The Salvation Army helped more than 1,000 local children start the school year right through its back-to-school assistance program!
"We hope that the assistance we provide helps level the playing field for these children," Major Claire Grainger, Springfield Corps Officer said. "While we can't supply everything, we can help with the very basics needed for the first day of school and for some these children the very basic items are all that they'll have."
But helping so many requires the help of many others.
Donations of school supplies and children's clothing are urgently needed. New or gently-used children's clothing may be taken to The Salvation Army's Family Thrift Store - 1737 S. Campbell Ave. -  Monday through Friday from 9 am until 7 pm & on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Clothing Donations
Suggested clothing donation items include button-down shirts, jeans, blouses, sweaters, skirts, pants, t-shirts, etc. - boy's & young men's clothing is always especially needed for this program.
