DISD to hold public hearings to discuss school consolidation proposal

The first of several public hearings will be tonight to discuss D-I-S-D's recommendation to consolidate almost a dozen schools.

The district could shut down the eleven campues over the next two years if district officials can't find another way to balance their budget. The closures would help close a thirty-eight million dollar gap in next year's budget, which was cut by the state.

The eleven campuses up for consideration are the following: City Park Elementary School, Julia C. Frazier Elementary School, Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, Oran M. Roberts Elementary School, D.A. Hulcy Middle School, H.S. Thompson Elementary School, Harllee Elementary School, Arlington Park Elementary School, James W. Fannin Elementary School, James B. Bonham Elementary School and Pearl C. Anderson Middle School during the 2013-2014 school year.

The Board of Trustees will vote on the proposal at the end of the month.
