Seattle Weekly involved in buyout, split from alleged child sex-ad site

Voice Media Group announced Monday its buyout of Village Voice Media Holdings, LLC. The purchase included alternative newspaper Seattle Weekly, as well as SF Weekly, LA Weekly, and others.

The buyout comes a month after the struggling Village Voice Media laid off reporters, writers and editors across its 13 newspapers and other publications, according to The Stranger and Buzzfeed.

Not included in the buyout is, the controversial classified advertising service formerly owned by Village Voice Media. A storm of criticism has hit in recent years for its alleged hosting of child sex trafficking ads. Three minor girls filed suit against in Pierce County Superior Court in July claiming they were victims of human trafficking advertised on the site.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Washington state Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles called on Village Voice Media this summer to take more strident measures toward preventing illegal ads from being posted on the site. will become a separate company with separate ownership, according to the Voice Media Group Statement.
