Level 3 sex offender moving to Marysville, parents on alert

Parents in a Marysville neighborhood aren’t happy to hear a Level 3 sex offender is about to move nearby.

Glen Edward Thomas, 49, alerted law enforcement he plans to live in the 15400 block of 51st Ave. NE.  Thomas just got out of prison after serving 32 years for child rape.

When he was 17 years old, Thomas kidnapped a 3-year-old boy from his front yard, punched him in the stomach and dragged him into his car.  Thomas then took the toddler to a park where he worked, bound him with tape and sexually assaulted him in a bathroom.

“It’s very scary about this guy in particular because I have boys and they’re young and we do play outside a lot,” Tegen Davis said.

Davis is concerned because many kids in the neighborhood play at a nearby park, sometimes unattended.

“The kids do go there and they’re all age ranges from small to about 12. They are a lot of times unsupervised because we are a pretty close-knit neighborhood and a lot of people watch out for everybody else, but there are times you don’t see everything,” Davis said.

As a Level 3 sex offender, Thomas is considered the most likely to reoffend. The Department of Corrections said he did complete sex offender treatment behind bars, but neighbors aren’t convinced their kids will be safe.

“Now we have to change our whole entire lifestyle of how our kids can play and we only get ... two weeks notification to do that, that’s wrong,” said mom Kim Mercier.

As part of his release conditions, Thomas can’t leave Snohomish County and will likely be monitored by GPS tracking. The Marysville Police Department will be holding a public meeting notifying residents about Thomas on April 25 at 7 p.m. at the police department at 1635 Grove St.
