First Lady Michelle Obama Campaigns for Sen. Murray Monday

First Lady Michelle Obama is stumping for Democratic Sen. Patty Murray at a fundraiser in Bellevue.

Obama says she and Murray both bring a mom's work ethic to public service. And she says Murray's help is critical in helping Democrats improve conditions for families.

About 1,400 people attended Monday's event. Murray is in a competitive contest with Republican Dino Rossi. The race is critical to determining which party controls the Senate.

Murray also welcomed President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and former President Bill Clinton to the state last week.

The vice-president's wife, Jill Biden, also spoke Monday. A second, more private fundraiser was scheduled afterward at a nearby home.

Ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 2 in Washington's mostly vote-by-mail election.
