CALEXICO — Three unidentified U.S. citizens were arrested this week by U.S. Border Patrol agents in connection with attempting to smuggle 10 packages of marijuana that were thrown over the U.S.-Mexico border fence near downtown Calexico.
News about the Monday incident wasn’t made public until Wednesday.
The vehicle had been pulled over and the multiple packages were found inside, the statement reported.
The 22-year-old driver of the unspecified vehicle was also arrested. The packages weighed about 13 pounds and carried an estimated street value of more than $10,000.
WESTMORLAND - A Westmorland woman was stabbed multiple times in her Sundance Lane home early Wednesday in what police are treating as an attempted homicide.
The woman, whose name was not released, suffered wounds that required a flight to the University of California San Diego Medical Center, where her condition was not known Wednesday evening, said Westmorland Police Officer Fred Beltran Jr.
The stabbing is believed to have occurred between 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., Beltran said, as a family member alerted authorities.
Beltran declined to say whether a weapon was recovered from the scene and would not comment if any property had been taken from the home.
A description of the woman’s assailant was not obtained even though she was alert when the attack occurred, Beltran said.
