Lost immigrants rescued in desert
OCOTILLO - Three immigrants who illegally entered the country became lost in the desert and were picked up by authorities early Sunday, according to a press release.
Around 1:30 a.m., Imperial County Sheriff’s Office contacted El Centro Sector Border Patrol about three men who made a distress telephone call stating that they were lost in a remote desert area and needed help.
A helicopter from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine Yuma Branch helped search for the three men around 2:35 a.m. and directed El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents to the ground location.
Agents found the men and provided first aid. Two of the men, ages 20 and 22, appeared to be in stable condition and declined medical attention, but the third, a 29-year-old, was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for dehydration and heat-related illness.
All three men were identified as Mexican nationals illegally in the country and are in CBP custody awaiting deportation.
Eight immigrants successfully prosecuted
