Valley Police Beat: Man arrested for attempted murder of girlfriend

Calexico police responded around 8 a.m. to a home on Grant Street in regards to a domestic violence call.
They then arrested Alberto Solis, who was booked into Imperial County jail and faces charges including attempted murder of his girlfriend.
She was at the home of a friend and had lacerations to her head and severe blunt force trauma throughout her body. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Solis has extensive criminal history.
Agents seize 27 pounds of marijuana
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized 27 pounds of marijuana estimated to be worth more than $22,000 Wednesday evening.
Around 10:30 p.m., agents saw a person climbing the international border fence Calexico near the Calexico East Port of Entry, according to a press release.
They responded and encountered a 41-year-old male Mexican national running along the Alamitos Canal bank carrying a duffel bag.
They arrested him and found a package of marijuana inside the bag.
The man and drugs were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.
Two suspected drug smugglers stopped at checkpoint
SALTON CITY — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two drug smugglers in separate incidents at the Highway 86 checkpoint Wednesday.
Around 4 p.m., a Border Patrol canine team alerted to a white 2000 Ford Explorer crossing through the checkpoint, and 66.9 pounds of marijuana were found in a hidden vehicle compartment on further inspection.
The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $53,500.
The driver, U.S. citizen Priscilla Zamora, 27, was taken into custody and the vehicle, drug and suspect were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Around 9 p.m., the canine team alerted to a grey 1996 Toyota Tercel, and agents found nine pounds of methamphetamine inside a car battery compartment upon further inspection.
The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $300,000.
The driver, U.S. citizen Julio Munoz, 21, was arrested, and the suspect and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
