Montenegro is out and Fitzpatrick is in as the El Centro Elementary School District will both gain and lose a couple of assistant superintendents this summer.
ECESD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ruth Montenegro will be moving on to the Imperial County Office of Education while San Diego resident Susan Fitzpatrick will be moving in to a different position, becoming the assistant superintendent of business services amidst all the state budget turmoil.
The assistant superintendent of business services position does everything from payroll services to accounts receivable, he said. “We’re also looking into this new person assuming the responsibilities of workman’s compensation as well as the budget and things like interim reports.”
Pletka said filling Montenegro’s shoes in HR is yet to be seen as the district is considering eliminating the position altogether.
“That doesn’t mean we’d eliminate the services that office provides but we would potentially eliminate the position,” Pletka said.
Pletka said Montenegro’s position handles health and welfare benefits, workman’s compensation, hiring, areas of discipline, credentialing, and “also provides leadership in some other areas such as contracts (in negotiations).”
“We’re looking at reorganization at the next board meeting (but) right now the board needs to look at that and decide,” Pletka said.
The next El Centro Elementary District school board meeting will be May 24.
