Three additional charges have been filed against the Imperial County Sheriff’s deputy previously accused of a sex-related crime.
Stephen Lankford has been charged with two counts of soliciting a bribe and one count of residential burglary, said Assistant District Attorney Deborah Owen. All three of those charges were heard earlier this month in court, and they’re set for a preliminary hearing on July 9.
The two new cases — one for one of the alleged soliciting a bribe charges and one for the alleged residential burglary and soliciting a bribe — are separate from the previous charges against Lankford.
Lankford, an Imperial County Sheriff’s deputy, was previously arraigned for one count of oral copulation by threatening to use the authority of a public official to incarcerate, arrest or deport the victim or another person.
It has not yet been decided if the two new cases will be tried separately from each other and the sex-related case.
After the new cases were filed, Lankford was taken into custody on a $75,000 and a $25,000 bond. He has since made bail.
Lankford’s lawyer could not be reached by press time.
