The Imperial County Farm Bureau encourages Imperial Valley residents who want a good dinner and to support the community to stop by its 60th annual scholarship barbeque tonight.
Net proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Farm Bureau’s scholarship fund.
Scholarship applicants are evaluated on their scholastic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership skills, financial need and a personal essay. Past recipients include entomology, agricultural science and horticulture students. The Farm Bureau awarded some $4,000 in scholarships last year, Dale said.
In addition to its own scholarship, the Farm Bureau administers the Vern Highley, Matt LaBrucherie and Raul Rodriguez memorial scholarships, approaching $25,000 in scholarships awarded to local students last year.
“There will be games and jumpers for kids, live music and a drive-through,” Dale said. “It will be a nice family event.”
Additional info Tickets cost $8 per person
Scholarship applications are on the Farm Bureau website at www.icfb.net
