A man arrested in January in connection with a stabbing in Calexico pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon Thursday.
Michael Derrick Jimenez will be credited with time served and released, said Defense Attorney John Breeze.
Jimenez is one of two individuals arrested in connection with an attack on Luis Noriega, who claimed he was stabbed in the neck multiple times. He was flown by air ambulance for treatment.
Jimenez’s defense attorney filed a motion in March to exclude a witness from the trial because she could not be located. Due diligence was exercised the witness, prosecutors said. The motion was denied.
