The children’s departments of Washington County Library System are offering the Dig Into Reading Summer Reading Club for children this summer.
Registration begins Saturday.
This year, a registration form can be found on the library’s website at www.washcolibrary.org. The program runs through Aug. 31.
Children will receive a colorful reading log that has places for stickers on it.
Every time a child reads or listens to a story for 15 minutes, he or she may place a sticker on the log.
Stickers are provided, along with the reading logs.
A prize will be provided by the library after 20, 40 and 50 stickers for the school-aged reading log.
Other activities, such as visiting a museum or writing a book report, may be substituted for the reading stickers if desired.
In the teen program, titled “Beneath the Surface,” participants will receive a string backpack for completing half of the log and will have their names included in a drawing for movie tickets and a Kindle Fire when they complete the program.
There will also be a separate activity sheet for infants, as well as an adult reading club this summer.
A program titled “Passport to Reading” encourages families to visit every library branch in Washington County.
In addition to the reading logs and prizes, the libraries will be offering programs throughout the summer.
At the Central Library at North Pointe, there will be a kickoff program Friday, June 14, featuring Action Community Theater performing a fairy tale-based play.
The library’s midpoint program in July features “Critters and Conservation,” a program that will showcase a Kenyan sand boa, Columbian tegu, leopard gecko, Russian tortoise and African pygmy hedgehog.
The branch libraries will also be hosting these programs and other activities.
Contact your local library for program schedules.
