The Hartford Pops Band will perform a free musical program for all ages at the twenty-third annual Labor Day Weekend Concert in West Hartford on Sept. 1 from 5-7 p.m. on the grounds of the Town Hall at 50 South Main St. Concert-goers are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Picnics are encouraged. Free parking is available in the Town Hall lot. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Town Hall auditorium.
The 36-piece band will perform a festive program including Hollywood hits, Broadway show tunes, selections by contemporary composers and patriotic marches including the all-time favorite, "Stars and Stripes Forever."
The concert will be conducted by Patricia Lignelli, who joined the Hartford Pops Band as its guest conductor for the 2014 season. Mrs. Lignelli has served as music director for a number of wind ensembles and concert bands in the region, and she currently serves as director of music for the Glastonbury Public Schools.
