'Wreaths Across America' Ceremony Is Planned In New Britain

Military memorial ceremony at New Britain's Fairview Cemetery will include 1,300 wreaths

NEW BRITAIN - Fairview Cemetery will be the scene of a military memorial ceremony on Dec. 13, with more than 1,300 holiday wreaths to be placed on veterans’ grave sites.

The ceremony is party of national Wreaths Across America Day. More than 900 cemeteries and military memorials nationwide, including Arlington National Cemetery, will be participating, according to organizers.

Starting at 8 a.m., dozens of volunteers will put out wreaths at veterans' grave sites throughout the cemetery.

At noon, there will be a ceremony with color guards, performances by the New Britain High School Madrigal Singers, and wreath placements honoring all branches of the service.

Guest speakers include retired U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Col. Carl Venditto, who serves as the  U.S. Army Reserve ambassador in Connecticut, and Mayor Erin Stewart
