WEST HARTFORD — A man was killed after losing control of his 1992 Saturn sedan on eastbound I-84 in West Hartford early Tuesday. The crash closed the highway for about three hours.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was thrown from the car as it began to roll over, police said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The man was thrown into the left lane of the highway. He was breathing but not responsive when police arrived. He died later at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

The crash was reported at 3:36 a.m. on eastbound I-84 between the onramp from South Main Street and the Mayflower Street overpass.

Police said the driver was eastbound in the left lane when his car went into the median and struck a guardrail. The driver's name will be released when he is positively identified and next of kin are notified, police said.

The car he was driving had Texas license plates.
