Santa, Mrs. Claus and and an ugly sweater flash mob will take over West Hartford Thursday night as part of the annual Holiday Stroll.
"I think this is probably the signature event for West Hartford Center," said Barbara Lerner, executive director of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce. "It's been going on for over 45 years. It is a thank you to the community for supporting the Center."
The Holiday Stroll is is scheduled to take place Thursday from 5-7:30 p.m. in Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center. New this year is the "After Stroll," from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., where restaurants will offer specials on certain cocktails, Lerner said.
The free event will be a tree lighting in Blue Back Square at about 5:15 p.m., with horse-drawn carriage rides around the Center and Blue Back Square, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the corner of LaSalle Road and Farmington Avenue.
Local singing groups, including the West Hartford Women's Chorale, Hartford Men in Harmony and a Conard High School a cappella group, will perform at stages on the corner of LaSalle and Farmington and near the Barnes & Noble in Blue Back Square.
Retailers and restaurants also will offer free food and drink samples outside of their businesses, according to Elizabeth Zigmont, marketing director for Blue Back Square.
"Our annual Holiday Stroll is our kickoff to the holiday season," she said. "It's a great way to get into the spirit."
