The football programs have never met. UConn faced a Big Ten opponent last year, losing to Michigan 24-21 at Rentschler Field Sept. 21.
The Fighting Illini are scheduled to play at Rentschler on Sept. 7, 2019; the Huskies will play at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Ill., on Sept. 12, 2020.
Illinois has played in 17 bowl games, including five Rose Bowls — the most recent in 2008. Memorial Stadium has a capacity of 60,670 and opened in 1923. Rentschler Field holds about 40,000.
Last week UConn announced its 2015-16 series with Tennessee will not be played as scheduled, but that new dates would be set by the fall of 2015.
UConn's nonconference games for next season are at home against BYU on Aug. 28, Stony Brook on Sept. 6 and Boise State on Sept.13. The Huskies also play Army Nov. 8 at Yankee Stadium.
In 2015, UConn hosts Villanova on Sept. 5, Army on Sept. 12 and is at BYU on Oct. 31.
In 2016 Virginia, old stomping grounds for UConn coach Bob Diaco, defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter and co-defensive coordinator Vincent Brown, comes to East Hartford on Sept. 17, and the Huskies face the Cavaliers in Charlottesville on Sept. 16, 2017. UConn and Virginia played a series in 2007 and '08. Virginia won 17-16 at its place and UConn won the return game 45-10 in 2008.
In 2018, UConn is at Boise State on Sept. 8.
