From left, Christopher Sciucco 11, Te'Asjah Bosh 11, and Tyler Antonaras 10, tell their teacher, Blaise Messinger, about their group project. Messinger, a fifth grade teacher at Woodside Intermediate School in Cromwell, was chosen as the district's teacher of the year. Messinger has been a teacher at WIS for the last seven years, after spending his first six years teaching in the inner city of Los Angeles, California, but moving back to Connecticut to be close to his wife's family. A former actor who said he had two lines in an episode of "Murphey Brown," said "I use the acting background to make it fun," adding that students need to enjoy learning so school doesn't seem like a jail.
