Weather Pushes Three High School Football Championships To Monday

A snowstorm predicted to hit Connecticut on Saturday prompted the CIAC on Friday to postpone three of the four high school football championship games and to reschedule the fourth to an earlier time.

The Class LL championship game, between No. 3 Darien and No. 1 Greenwich at Boyle Stadium in Stamford, will be the lone game to take place on Saturday, with the start time moving up an hour, to 10 a.m.

The Class L, M and S games all were moved to Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Class M game between No. 6 Barlow-Redding and No. 1 Killingly will still take place at Veterans Stadium in New Britain. The L game between No. 5 Masuk-Monroe and No. 2 Hand-Madison, originally scheduled for Veterans Stadium, has been moved to Trumbull High. The S final between No. 2 St. Joseph-Trumbull and No. 1 Ansonia will be played at Cheshire High.

A statement by the CIAC explained the decision: “The CIAC determined the updated schedule while considering appropriate and available sites, weather forecasts and requests from school districts indicating they were uncomfortable competing and traveling on Saturday given the weather.”
