PLAINFIELD — A 40-year-old man was trying to lose the police on his dirt bike by cutting through lawns Thursday afternoon but he lost control and slid into the cop car, police said.
Police were looking for Doug Phillips when they spotted him on his dirt bike on High Street and when officers tried to stop him he took his bike up onto lawns and cut through side streets to get away, police said.
While riding on a lawn on Milner Avenue, Phillips lost control of the bike and slid into a cop car, police said. He tried to run further but was hit with a Taser.
Doug Phillips was wanted on four outstanding warrants that included first- and second-degree failure to appear. He also faces reckless driving, operating under suspension, engaging an officer in a pursuit and other charges, police said.
He is being held on $250,000 bond and will appear in court Friday.
