Wreckage litters the block of the scene of an explosion in the downtown area of Springfield shortly after 5 p.m. Friday evening. A five block area around the scene was still blocked off as workers clean up and investigators look to find out the exact cause. Eighteen people were reported injured: nine firefighters, four gas company workers, two police officers, a city worker and two civilians.
