On The Fly: Look At Those Indians Go, 21 In A Row

Who knows if they will be consistent enough to win the World Series, but the Cleveland Indians set an American League record Wednesday by winning their 21st straight game, a 5-3 win over the Tigers fueled by a three-run homer by former Mets outfielder Jay Bruce. The streak matches the 1935 Cubs for the second-longest streak since 1900. Cleveland is within five wins of catching the 1916 New York Giants, who won 26 straight without a loss with one tie included. … The Oakland Athletics announced that their April 17 home game next season will have free admission. The night game against the White Sox comes on the 50th anniversary of the Athletics playing their first game at Oakland Coliseum. Oakland plans to provide more details on the game early in 2018.

The International Olympic Committee has faced its share of controversy over the years for the way it awarded Olympiads. But on Wednesday, the IOC made a move that will eliminate bickering through the 2028 Summer Games. It announced Paris will host the 2024 games and Los Angeles will have them in 2028. The decision marks the first time the IOC has granted two Summer Olympics at once. Apparently, IOC president Thomas Bach, who had only two bidders for the 2024 Games [Los Angeles was the other], didn't want to disappoint either group. Both cities will host their third Olympics. The Paris Games will come on the 100th anniversary of its last turn and LA's opportunity will halt a stretch of 32 years without a Summer Games in the United States.

ESPN anchor Jemele Hill decided to go on a tirade on Twitter, calling President Donald Trump a white supremacist and unfit to hold his office. What happened next was predictable. ESPN was forced to send out a statement saying her actions were inappropriate and not reflective of the network's point of view. On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters she was unsure whether the president has seen Hill's tweets, but she said ESPN should take action. "I think it is a firable offense," Sanders said.

Serena Williams introduced the world to her newborn daughter, named Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., after Williams' fiance and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. ... Keep an eye on Shohei Otani. He might be the best baseball player Japan has produced in decades, a guy who can throw 102, hit tape-measure home runs and may be one of baseball's most sought-after free agents this winter.
