Bargain hunter alert: The state's first Nordstrom Rack opened at 9 a.m. Thursday in the West Farm Shopping Center, 1600 Southeast Road, Farmington. (The 35,000-square-foot store occupies the former Linens 'N Things space and is right across the parking lot from TJ Maxx, south of Westfarms Mall.)
Here’s a roadmap to the deals — as you head in, the men’s department is to the right, kid’s department to the left and women’s fashions are in the center of the store. The footwear department covers the entire back wall. (It’s massive.) Handbags are between the children’s department and accessories section. In the front of the store, you’ll find accessories, (jewelry, watches, scarves, hosiery, etc.), bath and body products, cosmetics and hair styling items.
Designer names are everywhere: Prada, Burberry, Catherine Malandrino, Tory Burch. Merchandise, at 30 to 70 percent off original prices, is a mix of clearance and past-season goods from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com, along with items purchased specially for Rack stores. The store is well-stocked for opening day with tens of thousands of pairs of men’s, women’s and children’s shoes, over 1,000 handbags, more than 2,000 men’s ties and thousands of pieces of designer women’s denim, including a wide selection of jeans in trendy colors.
Nordstrom spokesperson Kendall Ault says the Rack’s changing mix of merchandise and discounted prices make for an exciting retail adventure.
“Shopping at a Nordstrom Rack is like a treasure hunt,” says Ault. “You never know what you’re going to find.”
If you stop by Thursday, keep an eye out for golden hangers, worth $100 in store cash, hidden throughout the store. Be one of the first 1,000 shoppers to make a purchase and you'll get a reusable Nordstrom Rack tote.
