West Hartford officials are hoping to have a new police chief by spring, and plan to post job information online next week.
On Nov. 13, Chief Tracey Gove announced his retirement after 22 years with the department. He served six years as police chief. He retired officially on Nov. 30 and took a job as a director of corporate security at Travelers. Assistant Chief Daniel Coppinger is serving as chief in the interim.
Town Manager Matthew Hart detailed the search process for members of the town council’s public safety committee Thursday morning, saying that advertising for the police chief position would be posted next week and remain posted through mid-February.
An internal panel, including , Fire Chief Gary Allyn, three officers of varying ranks and Assistant Schools Superintendent for Administration Andrew Morrow, would review applications before recommending final candidates for another panel of three area police chiefs to interview.
After that, members of the public safety committee and other community stakeholders will review and make a recommendation.
