Simsbury’s finance director and acting town manager was appointed Wednesday as Cheshire’s next town manager.
Sean Kimball was unanimously appointed by the Cheshire town council and will replace Michael Milone, who retires in June. Kimball will start May 1.
Kimball, who lives in Cheshire, was one of 57 applicants for the position and was selected from a pool of four finalists. He will be paid an annual salary of $142,500 and will also receive a $5,000 car allowance.
Kimball has worked in Simsbury since 2011. He was appointed finance director in June, following the departure of former finance director Joseph Mancini, who left to become director of finance and operations for Waterford Public Schools.
Most recently, Kimball was appointed interim town manager in Simsbury. He will fill in while the town awaits its first-ever town manager, Maria Capriola, who will arrive on Jan. 29. Kimball’s interim post is effective from Dec. 4 until Jan. 29. He will receive a $2,000 per month stipend in addition to his current salary to cover the additional town manager responsibilities.
Kimball holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Santa Clara University in California and a master’s degree in public administration from UConn.
Before he started working for Simsbury, he was a budget consultant for the city of New Haven and a local government management fellow in San Jose, Calif.
