At Home, a national big-box retailer that sells furniture and home decor, has submitted plans to open its first Connecticut store in the Burr Corners plaza.
The store would be in the building now occupied by Pilgrim Furniture & Mattress City at 1181 Tolland Turnpike. No announcement has been made on the future of the Pilgrim store, one of four Pilgrim locations in the state. Pilgrim Furniture President Mike Albert would only say, “Nothing’s been signed. It’s not fair to say anything until something’s been signed.”
Texas-based At Home’s plans shows that Manchester, particularly the Buckland area, continues to be attractive to national retailers, town planning and economic development Director Gary Anderson said. The company has stores in 33 states, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to its website — http://bit.ly/2fW6bU4.
The Manchester building application says some light exterior work would be done, including painting and facade changes, along with interior conversion work. The company does not need planning and zoning commission approval to move forward, Anderson said.
“They’re all set to go from a planning standpoint,” he said.
Pilgrim Furniture announced plans to open a Manchester store in 2009. The company also has stores in Southington, Danbury and Milford.
