NEW LONDON — A Connecticut College student has died after being struck near campus by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Officials say Anique Ashraf, a third-year student from Lahore, Pakistan, was found by crews responding to a report of an unresponsive person on the northbound side of Route 32 around 2 a.m. Friday. He was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on evidence found at the scene, police determined that Ashraf had been struck by a 2015/2016 Chrysler-type vehicle, which an off-duty officer later located in New London. Police have seized the vehicle and the operator of it has been identified by police, although no charges have been filed.

Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron said in a message to the college community that Ashraf was "a person with deeply held convictions who lived life to its fullest."
