New Haven Man Gets 5 Years For Carjackings, Armed Robberies

A string of carjackings and armed robberies last winter has landed a city resident with a 5-year sentence in federal prison.

Elbert Llorens, 24, must also serve five years of supervised release, a judge ruled in Hartford, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Llorens pleaded guilty in December to one count of taking a motor vehicle by force and violence, but investigators believe he committed several carjackings and armed robberies in January 2016 in Meriden, East Haven, New Haven and Milford.

In one of the incidents, he worked with Kyle Valentine, who has also pleaded guilty to one count of taking a motor vehicle by force and violence and awaits sentencing.
