Gala To Benefit Community Voice Channel

Staff Writer

The Bolton Community Voice Channel is holding its first gala, Lights, Camera, Action!, on Nov. 11 at the Ellington Ride Country Club, 56 Abbott Road in Ellington.

The event will run from 6:30 to 10 p.m., and will feature mingling, live and silent auctions, gust speaker Sarah Gallardo, as well as food, wine and beer, and a CVC signature cocktail.

All proceeds will go to help the CVC upgrade to high definition and to Sarah Speaks Up, a nonprofit organization that raises domestic violence awareness. Money will also be used to offer free training of the television equipment to residents.

The CVC is broadcast in Andover, Bolton, Ellington, Hebron, Marlborough, Tolland, and Vernon.

"This is not a sit down dinner; it's mingling. We'll have stations set up and you can walk around and have a good time," said Development Manager Kris Moulard.

She added that the dress code is business causal, so guests can be comfortable throughout the evening.

The signature drink, which will stick with the fall theme, will be a spiked apple cider cocktail.

There will also be 10 wine and beer vendors, including Sharpe Hill Vineyards, Hartford Flavor Company, and Thomas Hooker Brewery.

Food stations will include sliders, baked mac and cheese with various toppings, London broil carving, and specialty desserts.

A unique feature the event will have is a wine pull. Participating guests will pay $10 and a pick a cork and are guaranteed a mystery bottle of wine, all of which have been donated by Five Corner Wine and Spirits.

"All the bottles cost $10 or over so no matter what, you're getting at least a $10 bottle - but you could get up to a $45 bottle of wine," said Executive Director Nick Lavigne.

Auction items include tickets to the annual Manchester Community College Evening of Fine Wines, a food basket from Dreams Dinners, a basket from Silk City Coffee, VIP tickets from the Little Theatre of Manchester, a multi-person wine tasting at Total Wine & More, an overnight stay with food and fun at Mohegan Sun Casino, a stay at Old Sturbridge Village, a trip to Maine, a trip to North Carolina, and much more.

Gallardo will speak at the event about domestic abuse and the purpose of her organization.

"I keep telling people that this will be the best gala they've ever been to," Moulard said.

Tickets are $70 per person or $125 per couple. Tickets can be purchased online at www.cvcct.org or by mail. Checks can be made out to the Community Voice Channel, with "Gala" written in the memo section, and mailed to The Community Voice Channel 105 Notch Road, Bolton, CT 06043.
