South Windsor Wins Wild One Over Manchester; Bristol Central, Glastonbury Prevail

South Windsor overcame a furious rally from Manchester within the two-minute warning to escape with a 21-20 win in a CCC Division I East game Friday at South Windsor High. Connor Kapsiak helped South Windsor (6-0) build a 21-6 lead with three touchdown passes, before Manchester's (1-5) Jevin Frett caught a TD pass, his second of the game, to narrow the deficit to seven points with 1:12 remaining. Manchester then regained possession and scored on a sequence of three lateral passes as time expired, with Frett throwing a TD pass to Elijah Ford. Manchester elected to go for the win with a two-point conversion attempt, but the subsequent pass attempt failed.

Bristol Central 20, Newington 17: Dathan Hickey had three rushing touchdowns and Bristol Central's defense held strong in the red zone to preserve a CCC Division II West win over Newington at Bristol Central High. Hickey had 19 carries for 130 yards, with two scores coming in the fourth quarter to put Bristol Central (3-3) ahead 20-10. After Julian Ortiz cut the deficit to three with a TD run, Newington (2-4) recovered an onside kick with 5:11 remaining. Newington drove to Bristol Central's 5-yard-line but was knocked back with a holding penalty and a sack for a 14-yard loss, before quarterback Roberto Sanchez was tackled at the line of scrimmage to end the game.

Glastonbury 17, Enfield 12: Drew Daniels rushed for a 110 yards and a touchdown to help Glastonbury top Enfield in a CCC Division I East game at Glastonbury High. Daniels was 4-for-8 passing for 43 yards and had 110 yards on 20 carries. Daniels' touchdown was followed by a 25-yard field goal by Ryan Smith and a rushing touchdown by Matt Tenney to extend the Glastonbury (3-3) lead. Nathan Dumas, who was 9-for-22 passing for Enfield (1-5), rushed for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Southington 42, New Britain 20: Ryan Montalvo rushed for three touchdowns to lead Southington to a CCC Division I West win over New Britain at Southington High. Montalvo tallied 74 yards and three scores on 13 carries. Will Barmore was 18-for-31 for 238 yards and two touchdowns, both going to Joe Koczaera, who also added a rushing TD for Southington (6-0). Jamie Lamson led Blue Knight receivers with 91 yards. Shawn Robinson rushed 12 times for 91 yards and Jahfari Newman had two touchdowns for New Britain (2-4).

Middletown 55, E.O. Smith 7: Stone Belzo accounted for six touchdowns to help Middletown to a win over E.O. Smith in a CCC Div. II East game at Middletown High. Belzo tallied three passing touchdowns, two to DeAaron Lawrence and one to Nico Cavaliere, and added three more on the ground. E.O. Smith (3-3) scored in the second with Abdiel Tejada-Ruiz throwing to Isaiah Rivera for a touchdown.

Maloney 27, Wethersfield 7: Larue Graham tossed two touchdown passes to lead Maloney over Wethersfield in a CCC Division II West game from Cottone Field at Wethersfield High. Graham passed for 181 yards and the two scores, both going to Victor Marquez, who finished with 78 yards. Aden Valentine had 103 rushing yards and a TD for Maloney (6-0). Brendan Dowd had 50 receiving yards and Ryan Skelly rushed for a TD for Wethersfield (2-4).

Berlin 37, Avon 0: Kevin Dunn tossed three touchdowns as Berlin defeated Avon in a CCC Division III East game from Scalise Field at Sage Park in Berlin. Dunn was 18-for-23 for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Two went to Giancarlo Tufano, who hauled in eight catches for 144 yards and the two scores. Alex Halkias also caught a TD pass for Berlin (6-0) and Larry St. Pierre finished the night with four carries for 32 yards and three catches for 31 yards. Avon falls to 0-6.

Rocky Hill 38, East Catholic 6: Danny Cavallaro contributed three touchdowns as Rocky Hill (6-0) clinched the CCC Div. III West title with a win over East Catholic at Rocky Hill High. Cavallaro, Joe Ferreira and Joe Catania each had a rushing TD during Rocky Hill's 21-point first quarter. Cavallaro also connected with Jack Hansen and Will White on TD passes. David Lundy ran for a score as time expired to help East Catholic (0-6) avoid a shutout.

East Hartford 31, Hall 0: Kevon Jones had nine tackles and a touchdown run to help East Hartford defeat Hall in a CCC inter game at East Hartford High. Raquan Tompkins, David Ortiz and Jamar Eagon also rushed for touchdowns with Ricardo Roberts adding a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter. Aiding in the shutout was Antoneil Phillips, who had 12 tackles and two sacks for East Hartford (5-1). Hall falls to 1-5.

Stafford/East Windsor/Somers 37, Rockville 6: Colton Engel contributed four touchdowns to lead the co-op of Stafford, East Windsor and Somers over Rockville in a Pequot Uncas game at Rockville High. Engel had 22 rushes for 188 yards, including two touchdown runs, and connected with Jeff Kology twice on TD passes. Julian Revis also had 14 rushes for 80 yards and a TD for Stafford, which improved to 6-0 for the first time in school history. John O'Coin threw a 99-yard TD pass to Tyler Allen for Rockville (0-5).

Cheshire Academy 28, Clarkson 26: Josh Commune threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Jared Martino added a fourth-quarter TD run to help Cheshire Academy stave off a Clarkson comeback attempt in a prep game at Cheshire Academy. Martino had 26 rushes for 175 yards and also had another rushing TD in the first quarter. Chase Kinzly also had four catches for 45 yards and a score for Cheshire Academy (6-0).
