State Police: Colchester Woman Arrested In Wrong-Way, DUI Crash In Hartford

A Colchester woman was charged with driving under the influence after she drove the wrong way on I-84 in Hartford Thursday night, striking two cars, state police said.

No one was seriously injured in the crashes, which happened shortly before 10 p.m., police said.

In addition to DUI, Theresa P. Brownell, 45, of Parkside Drive was charged with driving the wrong way on a divided highway, first-degree reckless endangerment and evading responsibility, they said. She posted $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court Aug. 31.

According to the state police, shortly before 10 p.m., Brownell drove her 2008 Ford Escape east in the lanes for westbound traffic near Exit 44. She struck a 2008 Subaru Legacy and a 2013 Ford F 250 pickup truck.

The Subaru's occupants, all of whom are from Waterbury, were taken to the UConn Health Center, state police said. Passenger Tara L. Gannon, 28, sustained a possible minor injury, and the driver, Christopher James Gannon — who turned 29 Thursday — and passenger Ryan P. Gannon, 33, were checked for possible injuries.

The truck's driver and passenger, Caelynn Mae Craine, 19, and Jonathan Ryan, 20, both of Waterford, Maine, did not appear to have injuries, state police said.

Brownell also had no apparent injury, police said.
