During the holiday break, dozens of Glastonbury children (and their parents) were entertained by the high-energy drumming duo Hip Pickles, comprised of Chet Doboe and his nephew John, at an event sponsored by the Glastonbury Parks and Recreation Department, on Dec. 27.
After performing several numbers on the drums, buckets, and other percussion instruments, the children were invited on stage to play along with the band.
"Today is all about fun," the elder Doboe said.
Audience members were entertained, with few able to refrain from moving to the beats performed by the various ensembles, which also included a grand finale that featured the parents in the crowd. Segments of the show also included a kids' dance contest, and a laughing competition, called the "Big Ha Ha."
"I love how they made it all about the kids," said one audience member and parent.
