5 Things To Know Tuesday

Shake off the dust from the long weekend by catching up with everything you need to know.

1. Hermine

Tropical Storm Hermine did not end up putting much of a damper on Labor Day plans around the state. The system stayed off in the Atlantic Ocean as of Monday night. There could be some rain and wind Tuesday and Wednesday, however.

2.  Duterte

President Obama had been scheduled to meet with new Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte this week - but that was before Duterte called him a "son of a bitch." The tension arose when Obama said he'd raise issues surrounding extrajudicial killings in Philippines.

3. Phyllis Shlafly

Phyllis Shlafly, the conservative and anti-feminist icon who was largely responsible for the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment, died Monday. She was 92

4. Pam Bondi

Pam Bondi, the Florida Attorney General, received a $25,000 donation from the Trump Foundation that violated federal rules. However, that's not the only issue. Soon after, Bondi decided not to open an investigation into Trump U.

5. UConn

The men's basketball team scored another recruiting victory Monday. Makai Ashton-Langford, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Worcester, Mass., chose UConn over Providence. He will join the team in 2017.
